The cause for 90% of the concrete damage found in most steel re-inforced concrete structures is corrosion at the rebar.

Active corrosion causes the steel to convert to rust thereby creating a dynamic force of up to 5,000 pounds of pressure per square inch (PSI) against the host slab.

This pressure will cause the concrete to crack, separate and ultimately spall (fall) away from the host slab.
